I recently watched the movie, the Labyrinth, which was one of my childhood favorites. It completely inspired me and I kind of went poetry crazy. This is pretty epic.

Labyrinth Lullaby

Trickling vines with peering eyes
Percolate slowly on the wall’s side
Where sinister goblins are disguised-
It is a Labyrinth full of lies.
The goblin king sings deafening lullabies
And the red lipstick stains may point the way,
But the sanguine arrows cannot be trusted, they play
With the magic- it twirls and jumps and follows you as you lose your way.
Magic spells and incantations bewitch and voodoo this world’s entirety.
It is an absolute place where one tells the truth and the other always lies.
Grasping, croaking hands blitz by.

This is a world of Lewis Carroll but without a mad hatter
Instead, full of greedy dwarfs and fairies that bite and fiends that chant and banter.
There are walls with stone faces that scream there.
He is a trickster, with plastic jewels, an echoic looking glass, and eighties hair;
His eerie serenades are not truly there.
The way forward is sometimes the back way, they sing.
Creatures that snap.
Stones that roll and sting.
Iron doors knock and clap.
Flawless, feathered trees and dusty wood sparkle and glimmer
This blackness illuminates- twinkle, luster, glitter.
A decrepit dwarf struggles to defeat his lord
As warbling, ocherous creatures of fire and ember roar and soar;
They jostle and swing with pointy fingers and bouncing scalps, razor fur hits the floor.

The clock ticks and slides faster and faster;
The minutes throb, quiver, and swing quicker.
Eternal stench tries to gobble and bubble as inked wings and venom vines fly.
Tales of Alice, Dorothy, and Snow White are no match for this labyrinth lullaby-
Of floating mirrors- masquerade balls where goblin fairytales arise.
Forbidden romances dance and charade to a Bowie melody;
Staring eyes in masks circle you in the alabaster gown, it’s ghastly
Image in the glass shatters the glorious fantasy-
Icy illusions and frozen foreboding splinter slowly.
The search continues but you has forgotten her journey
In the hazy ball that swirls and dilutes her memory.
A crazy hag carries your life on her humpback,
A useful distraction from your true task.

This is a land of wonderment and horror,
One that tickles your imagination and fools your senses,
Clouds your head and destroys your hope-
It rains sharp swords of blood on your smoldering sunset.

The puppets come with their dragons and spears to defend the realm,
As their master pulls the strings of thread and ink to control and overwhelm.
It is the kingdom where demons rule.
The clock strikes thirteen and the king flips and twirls,
Stepping beneath you,
A shadow, a vision, a ghost of glamour. Angel of music.
Upside down staircases and pathways taunt you,
Jest and create fear that has followed you in this paradise of looking glasses,
A maze that is led by the porcelain owl.
Will you escape this fate and erase this nightmare?
The labyrinth lives in the mirror of your mind.
And I fear that you will never escape from here.
